Horse show attracts 100 entries

THE Hayling Island Horse Show drew more than 100 competitors to Lower Tye Farm on September 7.
Although the weather leading up to the show was torrential rain, the day itself was dry.
There were six rings, from show jumping to ridden and in-hand showing classes.
The children's ring was particularly popular with the young competitors and the spectators alike.
All of the competitors and their ponies received rosettes, and the standard of entries in all rings was praised by the judges, who themselves had travelled the length and breadth of the country to support the event.
There were also exhibitors of all things equine, including support from Hampshire Constabulary Horse Watch, as well as plenty of refreshments.
The show was held in order to boost funds for Hayling's Registered Riders' Scheme – a road safety scheme that enables riders to travel on horseback throughout the Island without using the major roads.
This is run with the support of local landowners. It is hoped that with the money raised by the show new machinery can be bought to enable the riding scheme routes to be maintained.
Many thanks to all involved, and in particular to Michael Camp who opened his land for horses, riders and spectators to have such an enjoyable day.
Following the success of the show, it has been agreed that the next Hayling Island Horse Show will run on Sunday, September 6 next year.
