FOURTEEN-year-old Joe Gravier took the honours in the Langstone Harbour Juniors Boat Festival at the end of August, bagging a splendid 22lbs 12oz of fish.
And the young ladies in the two groups that fished beat most of the boys - both in the number of species landed and their aggregate weights.
Special congratulations went to 16-year old Amy Read, who caught the most species – eight among her 14 fish. She was the leading angler on Dave Chapman's Starfish, landing 14lbs 12ozs in total.
Dary Green had seven different kinds of fish in his bag of 31 in the competition organized by Hayling Island Sea Angling Club.
Charlotte Gillen was runner-up on the same boat weighing in with 6lbs 8ozs and Hildie Winslade, who caught the heaviest fish of the day a 10lbs 8oz smoothhound, giving her second place on Dave Chapman's Torbay Belle.
The smoothounds boosted the weights on Torbay Belle with 12-year-old Hildie just 12ozs behind Gravier. The pair were some 15lbs ahead of 10-year-old Tom Read, who bagged 7lbs 8ozs of fish.
Following three postponements because of the weather, 15 young anglers boarded the two boats with instructors Adrian Carter, John Trapmore and Adrian Farley on board.
They headed out towards marks around the Nab Tower in flat calm seas.
Fishing was brisk with all the young anglers scoring points for a succession of bream, wrasse, pout, mackerel, dogfish and smoothhounds.
The prizes were presented by Hayling's UK Sport England angling coach Adrian Farley, with thanks to sponsors Paige's Tackle in West Town, who provided them.
