IN recent years Hayling Cricket team has been used to finding success on the cricket field.
However eight members of the club found success in the annual inter-team challenge at the West Town Public House, on July 9,

The event brought together four of Hayling sporting teams – the pool team, the darts team, the football team and the crick
et team.

The night consisted of teams facing off in a six-game series (three pool games and three dart matches) with the winners progressing through to the final.

The first round matches were very close encounters, which saw the darts and cricket teams eventually progressing.

The final was a nail-biting affair with neither team gaining full control of the match and as a result, a dramatic one game tiebreaker of darts would occur.

At this point with the game in the balance at 3-3, the darts team looked to have the advantage, playing the sport they know and love.

Their team yielded experience, as well as players who have stood toe-to-toe with Phil "the Power" Taylor however, none of them had faced David "Snap Dragon" Gorvin.

The game was perfectly poised with both teams just needing a double to win.

The darts team had several arrows to finish the game, but failed to capitalise on their bigger scores.

But the cricket team just kept plugging away, as if in search of that all-important wicket and just double eight needed, a hush descended around the dartboard as David Gorvin stepped up.

The first dart was released and found its way into the middle of the required double, leaving the cricket club to be crowned inter-team champions.

Thanks go to the West Town for being such great hosts and all the teams for allowing the event to take place.

Furthermore the cricket club look forward to coming back next year and defending their title.

Team: Keith Adams (capt), James Adams, Sam Bogue, Graham Cottle, David Gorvin, Mike Lever, Jason Longhurst and Gary Martin.
