RON Carter was born on Hayling Island in the Coastguard Cottages, being one of 10 children – five brothers and five sisters.
At 17 he joined the Navy and spent 23 years serving all over the world. He met his wife, Mary, when she was in the Wrens.
They shared 53 years happily married, having a daughter Andrea and a son Adrian.
On leaving the Navy he became a maintenance man for Sinah Warren Holiday Camp before working for Hayling Building Centre for many years, until retiring.
He was a member of Hayling Island Angling Club – his favourite pastime being sea fishing - and he enjoyed playing snooker at the Royal British Legion as well as the occasional round of golf.
Ron was a very popular person and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. A funeral service was held at St Mary's Church on March 11.
Mary would like to give special thanks to the First Responders and all her parishioners and neighbours for their kindness and support. Donations were given to the First Responders.
